Καταγγελία για τη λογοκρισία στο Facebook Μετάφραση ΕΓΧΡΩΜΗ ΤΗΛΕΟΡΑΣΗ

Υπογράψτε την ανοιχτή επιστολή μας για να αντιταχθείτε στο αφήγημα του Facebook για τα “δύο άκρα” που ευθυγραμμίζεται με την κυβέρνηση Τραμπ για να καταστείλουν τις φωνές των ακτιβιστών και των παραγωγών μέσων που σχετίζονται με τα αριστερά και αντιεξουσιαστικά κινήματα διαμαρτυρίας.

Ως εκδότες, συγγραφείς, εκπαιδευτικοί, ακτιβιστές και παραγωγοί μέσων, ανησυχούμε βαθιά από την απόφαση του Facebook να απαγορεύσει το itsgoingdown.org, crimethinc.com και πολλούς άλλους εκδότες, συγγραφείς και ακτιβιστές λόγω της σχέσης τους με τον αναρχισμό. Αυτή η απόφαση έχει ρητώς πολιτικά κίνητρα. Το Facebook καταστέλλει τις φωνές τους λόγω των πεποιθήσεών τους και επειδή παρέχουν χώρο για τις προοπτικές των συμμετεχόντων στα αριστερά κοινωνικά κινήματα.

Σε μια δήλωση που αιτιολογεί τις απαγορεύσεις, το Facebook αναγνώρισε ότι αυτές οι ομάδες δεν έχουν κανένα ρόλο στην οργάνωση της βίας, αλλά ισχυρίζεται αφηρημένα ότι “συνδέονται με τη βία” ή “έχουν μεμονωμένους οπαδούς με μοτίβα βίαιης συμπεριφοράς” – μια περιγραφή τόσο ευρεία που θα μπορούσε να συμπεριλάβει αμέτρητες σελίδες που παραμένουν ενεργές στο Facebook. Οι αναρχικοί εκδότες και οι εν λόγω συγγραφείς στοχοποιούνται για λόγους που τελικά αφορούν πολιτικές πεποιθήσεις και όχι «βία». Εάν αυτή η απόφαση δεν αμφισβητηθεί, θα δημιουργήσει ένα προηγούμενο που θα χρησιμοποιηθεί ξανά και ξανά για να στοχοποιήσει την ίδια τη διαφωνία.
Στη δήλωσή του, το Facebook κατηγοριοποιεί τους αναρχικούς μαζί με τις ακροδεξιές πολιτοφυλακές που υποστηρίζουν την κυβέρνηση Τραμπ, συνδέοντας δύο ομάδες που είναι θεμελιακά ανόμοιες και αντιτιθέμενες. Αυτό αντανακλά την απόφαση του Γενικού Εισαγγελέα William Barr για τη δημιουργία μιας ειδικής ομάδας του Υπουργείου Δικαιοσύνης που στοχεύει σε «αντικυβερνητικούς εξτρεμιστές» δηλαδή στοχοποιεί τόσο τους αυτοανακηρυγμένους φασίστες όσο και τους αντιφασίστες, σχηματίζοντας μια ψευδή ισοδυναμία μεταξύ των λευκών ρατσιστών που ενορχηστρώνουν επιθέσεις και εκείνων που οργανώνονται για να προστατεύσουν τις κοινότητές τους.

Σε μια εποχή που οι διαδηλώσεις έπαιξαν ουσιαστικό ρόλο στη δημιουργία ενός εθνικού διαλόγου σχετικά με τον ρατσισμό, τη βία και την καταπίεση, βλέπουμε την απαγόρευση του Facebook ενάντια στους αναρχικούς εκδότες στο πλαίσιο των συνεχιζόμενων προσπαθειών της κυβέρνησης Τραμπ για καταστολή της διαμαρτυρίας. Για μήνες, ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ κατηγόρησε ξεκάθαρα τους αναρχικούς για το κύμα διαμαρτυρίας σε όλη τη χώρα που προκλήθηκε από την επίμονη αστυνομική βία στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Πριν από μια δεκαετία, εκπρόσωποι του Facebook επιδείκνυαν με υπερηφάνεια τον ρόλο τους στα οριζόντια κοινωνικά κινήματα που ανέτρεψαν τους τυράννους στην Αίγυπτο και αλλού. Σήμερα, η απόφασή τους να απαγορεύσουν εκδότες που παρέχουν χώρο για τους συμμετέχοντες σε διαμαρτυρίες δείχνει ότι παίρνουν τις εντολές τους σχετικά με το τι πρέπει να αποτελεί αποδεκτή ομιλία από εκείνους που βρίσκονται στην κορυφή της δομής εξουσίας.

Η απόφαση του Facebook είναι μέρος μίας πρακτικής που θα προχωρήσει πολύ αν δεν αντιδράσουμε. Οι αναγνώστες αξίζουν να μπορούν να ακούνε απόψεις από κινήματα διαμαρτυρίας ενάντια στην αστυνομική βαρβαρότητα και το ρατσισμό, ακόμη και αμφιλεγόμενα. Οι συγγραφείς και οι εκδότες δεν πρέπει να καταστέλλονται επειδή προωθούν την αλληλεγγύη και την αυτοδιάθεση.
